Tsavo National Park Wildlife : Tsavo national park is among the most famous national parks not only in Kenya but the entire East Africa, the park is found in the coastal province. Tsavo national park sits on 22,812 square kilometres, it’s the oldest park in Kenya, it was established in 1948 April. Tsavo national park was named after the great Tsavo River that crosses the park from East to West. Tsavo national park was later divided into two national parks namely the Tsavo East and Tsavo West national parks.

The Park is considered as one of the world’s biodiversity strongholds, and its popularity is mostly due to the vast amounts of diverse wildlife that can be seen, including the famous big five consisting of lion, black rhino, cape buffalo, red elephant, leopard, waterbucks, gerenuk. Wildlife can be found in all the ecosystems in the Tsavo National park like the deserts, forests, plains, grasslands and other areas at times including some developed urban areas, all have distinct forms of wildlife.

Tsavo East National park.

Tsavo national park is the largest and the oldest national park in Kenya. Its size favour the display of various wildlife in the park, Tsavo East national park is a theatre of wildlife, here the guests can enjoy observing the wildlife in the open large savannah grassland. The Tsavo East national park has the African big five animals that is lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and the rhinos as well as the big cats, the park also has grazers including kobs, Gazelles, Topis, Zebras, Giraffes, dik-dik, Kudu, Eland, Impala, elephants, buffalo, rhinos, jackals, foxes, hyenas, crocodiles, antelopes, and where the wildebeests and among others. Unlike other wildlife animals like the wildebeests which are migratory they move from Serengeti then to Maasai Mara and vice versa, the wildlife of Tsavo East national park are permanent residents.

Not only the animal and the mammal species in the Tsavo East national park, the park has got various over 500 bird species like the Somali ostrich, Somali Bee- eater, Taita falcon, Vulturine guineafowl, Slender- tailed nightjar, Rufous Chatterer, Red-bellied parrot, Northern brownbul, Pamngani long claw, Martial eagle, Lesser kestrel, African Finfoot, Fisher’s starling, Black- faced sandgrouse and among others.

Tsavo East national park is dominated by the semi- arid vegetation with open savannah grassland dotted with Acacia trees and some riverine along the rivers, which acts as biodiversity that attracts diversified wildlife at the park.

Tsavo West National Park.

Tsavo West national park is the second largest national park in Kenya after its neighbour Tsavo East National Park. Tsavo West National park has a variety of wildlife, such as eastern black rhinoceros, hippopotamus, cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, Hippos, wildogs, Hyrax, Mongoose cheetah, Jennet cats, lion, there are also other smaller animals that can be spotted in the park, such as the bush baby, hartebeest, lesser kudu, Kobs, Gazelles, zebras, Rhinos, Elands, Topis, Dik-dik, Wildebeests, crocodiles Maasai giraffe. The Tsavo West National park has diverse plant and bird species including the threatened corncrake and near threatened Basra Reed Warbler. Bird species in the park are over 400 species that includes the River warbler, Marsh warbler, Eastern black-headed oriole, Corncrake, Starlings, Golden pipit, African fin foot and among others.

The vegetation ranges from the rocky mountainous to the lower swampy areas in the Tsavo River, most of the Tsavo West national park is dominated by the open savannah grasslands dotted with the Acacia trees, the different habitants at the park has attracted most of the rare animals like the lesser Kundus at the park.

Though some wildlife threatens human safety, health, property, and quality of life, however many wild animals in the Tsavo West National park even the most dangerous animals have the most important value in the country that is through economic, educational, or even emotional in nature.
