Detailed itinerary of 7 Days Uganda Rwanda Safari
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Kibale Forest national park
After breakfast at your hotel in Kigali or up early morning arrival, you will be picked up by our guide and start the journey to Kibale Forest National Park. The journey will take between 5 to 6 hours and this requires that you set off early. Along the way, enjoy the beautiful countryside of both Rwanda and Uganda.
You will cross over to Uganda at Katuna Border where you will clear with the immigration authorities and continue to Kibale Forest with en-route lunch. When you arrive in the park, you will check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Dinner and overnight stay at Kyaninga Lodge (Luxury), Primates Lodge (Midrange) and Chimpanzee Guest House (budget).
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest – Queen Elizabeth National park
Wake up early for breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking, how to be and what to expect. Enter into the forest looking for the playful chimpanzees, the trek takes approximately 2 to 5 hours depending on the movement of the chimpanzees and when you locate them, you are allowed to stay only for one hour. Watch them play, feed and groom each other.
Return to the park headquarters, meet your guide and embark on a one hour’s drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge after check in and spend the rest of the day at rest.
Dinner and overnight will be at Mweya Safari Lodge (luxury), Park view lodge (Mid-range) and Simba safari camp (budget).
Day 3: Game drive – Boat cruise at the Kazinga Channel
You will wake up early and go for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains and Mweya Area with your packed breakfast for the early morning game drive, this game drive is designed to allow you spot the nocturnal animals as they go back to their dens after hunting in the night. Expect to see leopards, hippos, hartebeests, lions, small primates, birds and other early morning risers.
Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon go for a boat cruise on Kazinga Channel, the channel connects Lake Edward to Lake George and is home to a collection point for most of the wildlife in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Expect to see various bird species and animals including hippos and Nile crocodiles, buffaloes and elephants that come drink water.

Day 4: Game drive at Ishasa sector – Transfer to the Volcanoes national park in Rwanda
Wake up early and embark on a journey to Volcanoes National Park with a game drive in the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park where you will get to see the rare tree climbing lions. These lions are sighted resting on top of fig and acacia trees after hunting in the night.
With border crossing at Cyanika border you will continue to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park with en-route journey, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Mountain gorilla tracking in Rwanda – Touring the Iby’iwacu cultural village
Wake up early for breakfast and then drive to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing which starts at 7:00 am, the briefing is led by the rangers and park guides. After the briefing, you will be assigned a gorilla family based on your fitness and age, head to the starting point, enter into the forests looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and upon locating them. You are allowed to spend one hour watching them go on with their life in their natural habitat, watch them play, feed and groom.
Return to the park headquarters, meet your guide and return to the lodge for lunch. Later in the day you will go for a cultural visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. Also known as The Gorilla Guardians Village in Musanze, the center brings together all the different tribes of Rwanda to showcase their cultural heritage, expect to musical performances, dance and drama. You can also put one the local costumes and join the performances.

Day 6: Golden Monkey Tracking – Visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo
Wake up early once again, take breakfast and wait for the driver to take you to the park offices for briefing on golden monkey tracking. You will be assigned a guide and armed rangers to escort into the forest to search for the cute golden monkeys.
Golden monkeys are endangered primates and can only be found in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, they live in the bamboo forests feeding on bamboo shoots and other vegetation, and they are very playful and love flash photos unlike gorillas. After some time hiking in the forest, you will see the golden monkeys on top of trees or feeding on the ground. Once done, head back to your lodge for lunch and rest. Later in the afternoon, the drive will take you to visit the beautiful twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera.

Day 7: Transfer to back Kigali – Kigali City Tour – departure
Have a leisurely breakfast and embark on a drive back to Kigali, the journey is approximately 3 hours and all the way you will be treated to views of the beautiful rolling hills of Rwanda’s vast tea plantation. Have lunch in Kigali after which you will go for a tour of the city visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site, the Presidential Palace Museum, City Markets and Gift Shops.
Later you will be dropped off at Kigali International Airport to catch your flight back home bring your safari to end.
