Detailed itinerary of 9 Days Ultimate Gorilla and Primate Safari

Day 1 – Arrival & Transfer to Kampala

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide and transfer to your hotel in Kampala. Spend the rest the day at leisure.

Day 2 – Depart Kampala City for Kibale National Park

Have early breakfast, start your journey to Kibale National Park past Mubende and Fort Portal. The journey offers scenic views of the Rwenzori Mountains, large green tea plantations, the Toro Palace and the local people as they go on with their daily activities.

Arrive at your lodge in Kibale Forest National Park and spend the rest of day at leisure or go for a guided walk in Bigodi Swamp.

Day 3 – Adventure in the Primate Capital of Uganda

Wake up for breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking, a ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while in the presence of the chimpanzees. In groups of 8 people you will head into Kibale Forest looking for chimpanzees, the trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the chimpanzees and where they spent their previous night. You are allowed to spend one hour with the chimpanzees watching them go on with their life in the forest, watch them breast feed, jump from one tree to another and take amazing pictures.

Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, visit Bigodi Community where you will be interacting freely with the locals. Then proceed to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a nice spot for birds including African hobby, great blue turaco, Black kite, Swamp flycatcher, and Scarlet-chested bird, Grey-crowned crane, Herons, Weaver birds and many more.

Day 4 – Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Have a leisurely breakfast, checkout of the lodge and embark on a journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. When you arrive in the park you will go for a game drive as you head you head to your lodge for lunch, in the afternoon you will go for another game drive exploring the savannah plains. Some of the animals to lookout for include bushbucks, elephants, warthogs, hippos and more. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 – Explore Queen Elizabeth National Park

Start your day with a delicious breakfast and head to the park for a morning game drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, during the game drive you will enjoy sightings of several animals including lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, gazelles, and many bird species.

Return to the lodge for lunch, in the afternoon you will go for a launch cruise on Kazinga Channel. As you calmly sail, you will spot several animals including elephants and buffaloes along the banks of the channel and Nile Crocodiles and hippos in the waters. You will also spot a number of birds like African fish eagle, pelicans, flamingos, Hammerkop, egrets, the African finfoot, pied kingfishers, marabou storks, vultures, kites and many more. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6 – Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park      

After breakfast, you will embark on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with en-route game drive in Ishasha Sector where you will have a chance to see the tree climbing lions. On arrival, check into your lodge and recuperate from the journey, have lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 7 – Gorilla Tracking Day

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing, a senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow. In groups of 8 people you will be allocated a gorilla family to trek, then head into the forests of Bwindi looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas, you are allowed to spend one hour with the gorillas watching them go on with their life in the forests of Bwindi.

Trek back to the park headquarter, meet your guide and return to your lodge or head to the Batwa Community for a culture experience, learn about their way of life among others.

Day 8 – Travel Back to Kampala City

After breakfast, you will meet your guide and embark on a journey back to Kampala with en-route lunch in Mbarara. Have another stopover in Lukaya for pictures, proceed to Kampala City and upon arrival check into your hotel and spend the rest of day at leisure.

Day 9 – City Tour of Kampala City

Today you will have a half day tour of Kampala and souvenir shopping. Thereafter, you will be transferred to the airport for your outbound flight back home.
