Wendi, who was rescued from the Imenti Forest near Mount Kenya in September 2002, was a new born with a damp umbilical chord and no colostrum from her mother. Wendi’s ear veins recovered and developed after receiving plasma from an adult Elephant Thoma, and she is now prospering at the Ithumba unit.Tomboi came at the Nursery on December 15, 2002, from the Samburu National Reserve.  He was discovered abandoned after gunshots were heard the previous night, and it is assumed that this calf got separated from his family as they rushed across the flooded Ewaso Nyiro River. He arrived only a few days old, still pink behind the ears, with a nasty cut right through his cheek, most likely made by another member of the herd as a result of the hysteria that ensued when attempting to re-join him.  Years later, he has since grown up and thriving as in the wild in the Northern Area of Tsavo East National Park, among many other beautiful rescue stories.
