Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is an award-winning illustration of the outstanding conservation efforts carried out by the local populace. This wildlife conservancy is a great haven for Black Rhinos, who are in danger of extinction, in addition to offering a variety of alternative safari activities. Originally a cattle ranch, the Craig family established the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in the 1920s as part of a colonial settlement plan. Owing to poaching, which had reduced the black rhino population to under 300, part of the ranch was converted into a residence for them in the 1980s. Established in 1995, the conservancy encompasses the entire farm as well as a portion of Ngare Ndare Forest Park.

Lewa Downs has been a unique tour destination for a while, but it gained notoriety in 2010 when British Prince William proposed to Catherine Middleton. It is recognized as one of the greatest conservation success stories in the world and serves as an example of environmentally conscious tourism. It has also gained popularity thanks to the Safaricom Marathon, an annual event held to collect money for the conservancy’s environmental programs. Aside from Kenya safari excursions, Lewa hosts a number of other activities.
